Types of glass

1.     Float Glass

Float glass is the standard glass used in residential windows. It's a flat, clear, and smooth type of glass, offering a basic level of transparency and strength suitable for most household applications.

2.     Toughened Glass

Toughened glass, also known as tempered glass, is significantly stronger than regular glass. When it breaks, it shatters into small, harmless cubes rather than sharp shards, making it an excellent choice for shower screens, pool fencing and balustrading. It often requires a top rail for added safety. Required for any balustrade or pool fencing that has a fall factor of more than 1m.

3.     Laminated Toughened Glass

Laminated toughened glass is composed of two layers of toughened glass with a polyvinyl interlayer, creating a sandwich of glass and hardened plastic. This design ensures that if the glass breaks, the interlayer holds the pieces together, providing an additional safety barrier. This type of glass is especially suitable for balconies and high-rise areas, where safety is paramount. The thickness of laminated toughened glass can be customised based on engineering requirements, making it a versatile and secure option for elevated structures.
